Thunder Can Be Tamed

It is late in the evening, and the sky Is threatening to open up to pour out all the evils from its cauldron. Jim feels like the clouds are speaking his emotions with every clap of thunder and lightning. He is experiencing a burst of rage that’s building within the inner folds of his being. His eyes seem to glaze over and his rage only deepens. You can almost see a set of horns emerging from above his temple and out of his hairline.
Jim’s emotions have been taken over by the powers of darkness. Without the armour of God to withstand those powers, the fury of hell and the devil will have full sway over him. Enraged, Jim could do damage that he never considered to inflict, and the next place this gentle giant could be is in jail with his head in his hands saying, “How could I have gotten so angry that I would do such a thing?”
Then last Sunday’s message from the minister of his church came barreling in. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]” (Ephesians 6:11-12).
“If only I had been in that Bible study Mary wanted me to attend with her...” he thought. “I would have learned how to overcome those evil thoughts, and I wouldn’t be sitting in this hellish predicament.”
In this case, Jim is only going to be charged with the lessor charge of battery. Had his foe died it could have been murder. Thank God! I must change my ways and start facing up to the fact that God is in control and start preparing for more onslaughts from the devil.
Have you given over to the dark and miserable side of the powers of darkness? You don’t have to feel alone in that -- we all have at one time or another. There is an answer to your dilemma. God’s word holds answers to combat that constant tug toward oblivion. Ephesians chapter 6 is a starting point to protecting yourself from evil. And it takes all the armour, leaving one piece out will give the devil a way in past the armour. You need the Breastplate of Righteousness, your feet shod with the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace, the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation, the Sword of the Spirit, and above all, your Loins Girt About with Truth, Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, (Ephesians 6:14-18). Then we all can be saying, with Jim, “Thank God!”
Precious Father, Bring peace to the tormented souls that need thee, help us all to follow the precepts of thy Word. Guide our thoughts that we might have the comfort of thy armour and the knowledge that you care about our struggles against evil. Amen

Jesus is standing at the door to your heart all the time. He is knocking to come in and love you and guide you. He is offering you the gift of everlasting life, but you must hear Him and open the door to Him as He will not kick it in. (Rev. 3:20) A gift is just outside your heart's door at this time. Will you receive this gift? Will you open the door to Jesus and let him flood your soul with His love? If so, read the following paragraph as your prayer.

Father, I know that I have sinned and I turn from those ways and ask you to come into my heart and cleanse me. I know that I cannot do this on my own and I need your help. Fill my soul, Lord, and make me whole. I want your will for my life to be preeminent. Help me to grow in your way.
    Amen
