Letting Go

Barbara Streisand sang a song titled, "The Way We Were." In it, she speaks of past love, past experiences, and letting go of the painful past. The song concludes with a positive message, that being to focus on the good and what was learned as a result, yet to let go of the hurts, pains, and disappointments so one may be free to grow.
So often, we let the hurts of the past bring us down and keep us in bondage. We blame our shortcomings on a bad childhood, or an addiction on our genes. We point fingers at distant shadows from the past, yet often fail to point a critical finger at the responsibility we have for our own lives.
What has already happened is called "the past" for a good reason. It is an event or events which have already taken place and are over and done with.
Living in the past and not letting go is not a natural or healthy state of mind. Replaying hurtful memories, whether they occurred twenty years ago, last month, or last week, will slowly destroy one's spirit and that is not what God has in mind for you.
Today is a good day to let go and let God. Release the chains of bondage that might be holding you back. Let go of envy, regret, and hatred. The past is past, today is here and now, and the future will come soon enough.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (II Corinthians 5:17)
Let God be part of your life.

Jesus is standing at the door to your heart all the time. He is knocking to come in and love you and guide you. He is offering you the gift of everlasting life, but you must hear Him and open the door to Him as He will not kick it in. (Rev. 3:20) A gift is just outside your heart's door at this time. Will you receive this gift? Will you open the door to Jesus and let him flood your soul with His love? If so, read the following paragraph as your prayer.

Father, I know that I have sinned and I turn from those ways and ask you to come into my heart and cleanse me. I know that I cannot do this on my own and I need your help. Fill my soul, Lord, and make me whole. I want your will for my life to be preeminent. Help me to grow in your way.
    Amen
