The Goldfinch and the Coreopsis

"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31 NKJV).
I grabbed my Bible and journal and headed for my front porch hide-a-way. Depression had his claws in me. I determined by God's grace to rid myself of him. Moments later I caught a glimpse of a yellow spot moving among the dead blossoms of the Coreopsis. Looking closely, I watched a goldfinch feasting on a cluster of seeds. As the finch ate his breakfast, a noisy mockingbird flew back and forth about ten feet above his head. Not once did the mockingbird's movements or jeering sounds bother the finch. He didn't even look up. He kept feeding. I looked up scriptures relating to birds. After reading about the sparrows, I wrote the following in my journal:
"A goldfinch is eating seeds in my garden. He is doing the very thing God planned for him. Although the mockingbird tried to disturb his peace, the goldfinch pays him no mind. He calmly eats his fill. Without fear he simply trusts his Heavenly Father. Now why shouldn't I become as wise as this tiny goldfinch? I've been listening to my fears and became afraid. This led to depression."
"Once made aware of what the problem is, I can ask the Lord to help. Then with fear, worry, and depression banished, peace can claim his rightful place. Peace and depression cannot dwell together in a believer's heart, there is simply not enough room."
You know what? Soon as I wrote this, fear and worry fled. God kicked them out. I smiled!

Jesus is standing at the door to your heart all the time. He is knocking to come in and love you and guide you. He is offering you the gift of everlasting life, but you must hear Him and open the door to Him as He will not kick it in. (Rev. 3:20) A gift is just outside your heart's door at this time. Will you receive this gift? Will you open the door to Jesus and let him flood your soul with His love? If so, read the following paragraph as your prayer.

Father, I know that I have sinned and I turn from those ways and ask you to come into my heart and cleanse me. I know that I cannot do this on my own and I need your help. Fill my soul, Lord, and make me whole. I want your will for my life to be preeminent. Help me to grow in your way.
    Amen
