Battles Never Won

Joe was about to go into the boss' office with the intention of getting a raise. "After all, I've been with this company for the last five years and I've given them my best at all times."
I know what he'll say, "The times are hard right now and we just can't afford the raise. When things get better and we can increase our output, then everyone will benifit."
"Well that isn't good enough," I'll say. "Since I've been here I've seen this company grow to more than four times its size.
That might be, Joe, but you know that we've plowed all our profits right back into the business to cover the new costs of that growth."
"Well, I just can't live on what I'm making now. I guess I will just have to turn in my notice of resignation." That should fix him, Joe thought. He has depended on me all along and he knew I was loyal. Well, serves him right. Now he'll have to try to find someone else to fill my shoes.
Joe put his hand on the knob of the door and turned it. With nostrils flared and fire in his eyes, he opened the door.
James, his boss, was already up and leaving his desk to greet Joe. With his hand extended and a big smile on his face he said, "Come in, Joe, and sit down. We haven't had a chance to talk for some time. How is your lovely wife? How are things going in your department? Are any of the co-workers giving you any trouble?
Joe didn't know what to say except, "She's doing great. An.., and we all get along just fine."
"That's as it should be, Joe. By the way, I've been talking to my accountant and we've come to the agreement that you are in need of a raise. We also need a manager in your department. Do you think that you could handle a Vice Presidency of Advertising for the firm.
The battle was over—it had never really begun. That is except in Joe's mind
Paul said, "...for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content." Philippians 4:11b
The Lord said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27
There is no battle when you are under God's grace. The battle was fought in Joe's mind because the dark forces were at work and Joe played right into their hands.
The best deterrent to conflict is knowledge of God's word. Paul stated that we should have "your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;" Ephesians 6:15 Take rest in the Love of your Lord and Saviour, Jesus. Remember "Love never fails" (NAS) 1 Corinthians 13:8.

Jesus is standing at the door to your heart all the time. He is knocking to come in and love you and guide you. He is offering you the gift of everlasting life, but you must hear Him and open the door to Him as He will not kick it in. (Rev. 3:20) A gift is just outside your heart's door at this time. Will you receive this gift? Will you open the door to Jesus and let him flood your soul with His love? If so, read the following paragraph as your prayer.

Father, I know that I have sinned and I turn from those ways and ask you to come into my heart and cleanse me. I know that I cannot do this on my own and I need your help. Fill my soul, Lord, and make me whole. I want your will for my life to be preeminent. Help me to grow in your way. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus.
    Amen
