Microstudy # 2 -- "Study by Substitution"
Recently while studying I John 1:5-10 KJV, the idea of
"study by substitution" hit me. Let me share it with you. You may
like the idea. In the following verses please notice the italicized words. Next you will note the word or words in
parenthesis to be substituted for them. To get the full impact of this, first
read the text directly from your Bible. Then read the text again substituting
the words in parenthesis for the italicized words. The result is a much clearer
understanding of the text.

5 This then is the
message which we have heard of him (Jesus Christ), and declare unto you,
that God is light, and in him (God the Father) is no darkness at all.
6 If we (the
Church) say that we have fellowship with him, (God the Father) and walk
in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth (Christ who is the way, the truth and the light):
7 But if we
(the Church) walk in the light (God -- the Father of lights), as he (Christ)
is in the light (God the Father), we have fellowship one with another
(others of the Church), and the blood of Jesus Christ his (God the Father's) Son cleanseth us
(the Church) from all sin.
8 If we (the
Church) say that we (the Church) have no sin, we (the Church)
deceive ourselves, and the truth (Christ) is not in us (the
Church).
9 If we (the
Church) confess our sins, he (God the Father) is faithful and just to
forgive us (the Church) our (the Churches) sins, and to cleanse us
(the Church) from all unrighteousness.
10 If we (the
Church) say that we (the Church) have not sinned, we (the Church)
make him (God the Father) a liar, and his word (Christ, the Word
of God) is not in us (the Church).
