proof of Christ's resurrection.
The Jewish leadership refused to believe
the obvious; that Christ had conquered death.
In Matt. 28:11-15 we read:
(11)
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch (Roman guards)
came into the city, and showed unto the chief priests (Jewish leadership,
Scribes and Pharisees) all the things that were done. (12) And when they were assembled with the
elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
(13) Saying, Say ye, His disciples came
by night, and stole him away while we slept. (14) And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him,
and secure you. (15) So they took the
money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among
the Jews until this day.
The Roman guards had seen it all. They told the Jewish leadership of the
earthquake, the descent of the angel, the rolling away of the stone and the
body of Jesus coming out of the grave alive.
Then the leadership had a conference.
They decided to bribe the soldiers to keep quiet and tell no one what
they knew. They offered money for them
to lie saying his body had been stolen while they were asleep. They agreed and they were given a large sum
of money, perhaps much more than they had paid Judas to betray Jesus. Furthermore, they promised that if the Roman
governor Pilate ever learned of their lies they would intercede and protect
them.
Here is conclusive proof how lies and a
conspiracy of silence was started 2000 years ago by those in power. Yet, they knew the truth that our Lord had
in fact been resurrected. He had
overcome death. And today, in spite of
those lies and the promulgation of those lies, the entire world, including His
enemies, is continually offered salvation.
