Microthought -- Only one
Life…
As a child I frequently had milk and cookies at my aunt's
house. Every time I feasted on those
delicious refreshments, I always read
and re-read a plaque she had on her kitchen wall. It didn't mean much to me at the time. It read:
Only one life
twill soon be past.
Only what's done for
Christ will last.
Now
looking back, I realize that each of us is the sum total of his/her experiences. As for me, my experiences include a tree
house that fell to the ground long ago.
My first tricycle was junked
years before I got married. That '41
Plymouth and '52 Ford have long ago been
melted down to make new things.
And, now I'm retired and the work
I pursued for a living is no longer a part of my day to day life. My hair is gray and body parts are rapidly
deteriorating. Yet, now at this late
date I am just beginning to understand what Jesus was talking about
in Matt. 6:19-20:
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where
moth and rust
doth corrupt, and where thieves break
through and
steal: But lay up for yourselves
treasures
in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves
do not break through nor steal:
Now the words on that plaque are extra
special to me. I just wish I could have
seen these things sooner.
